Black Mt. is on the eastern shore of Lake George, 15 miles from the head of the lake and is the highest point on the lake, being 2665 ft. above sea level and 2319 ft. above the lake. A fine trail leads from Black Mt. Pt. to the summit on which is located a fire warden's camp and observation tower.
Black bears may be seen frequently along the highways in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Under protection of the National Park they have become unafraid of human beings. The black bear is a native of this region and was hunted by mountaineers of this section before it became a national park.
