Source Description

While the forms of the marriage certificate change, the gathered information is very much the same on each form. There are many pieces of handwritten paper that provide the information but are not in printed form – some give more family data than others. Forms ask for names, residences, occupation, age, parents’ name, where and when the marriage intention was published, the location of the wedding, the person presiding at the wedding, the number of previous marriages and the date of the wedding. The person presiding at the wedding probably indicates the religious background or the nearest person legally allowed to preform the wedding. Interesting to see which home town they choose to marry in or if another town is chosen. The information provided is usually accurate since it uses more recent knowledge and is given by the participants. This set of marriage certificates start in 1851 and ends in 1925.
