Litchfield, of Scituate, Mass., describes establishment of minuteman company in Scituate, the reaction to the Lexington Alarm, and the guarding of the coast. Also chronicles day-to-day life. Includes biography on inside front cover and poem written by grandson Paul Brooks Merritt, circa 1833, that was printed on silk cloth and mounted on back cover. Transcription published in the New England Historical and Genealogical Register, 129 [1975]: 150-171, 250-269, 361-378.
