Source Description
A lithographic view of Cottage City (later Oak Bluffs) on Martha's Vineyard, Mass. The view is shown from a mythical high vantage point with Vineyard Sound in the foreground. The street plan of Cottage City is shown with individual buildings, parks, wharves, Lake Anthony, and Meadow Lake. Cottage City was a popular summer resort and the site of both Methodist and Baptist camp meetings. This print depicts the Iron Tabernacle in the center of Wesleyan Grove surrounded by several tents for attendees of the Methodist camp meetings. Eleven vignettes of identified buildings and parks appear under the main view, including Frank C. Smith Real Estate Broker; Residence of W.H. & T.F. Tillinghast; Hayden House; Residence of Hon. G.M. Landers; Vineyard Skating Rink; Residence of A.S. Barnes; Residence of H.A. Tucker, M.D.; Sea View House; Wesley House; and Central House.
