"William Lloyd Garrison met with David Lee Child. The Free Soil Convention is in Northampton next week. Child will tour the county to urge people to send delegates to the convention. Child was surprised at Mrs. Maria Weston Chapman's decision to live abroad. Charlie (Charles Follen Garrison) was delighted to see his father William Lloyd Garrison. Charlie likes Boston better than Northampton; he goes to school regularly. William Lloyd Garrison describes his medical treatment at Dr. Ruggles's establishment, including a description of breakfast and baths."
