Document source description

May advises Webb to charge the postage on his letters to his anti-slavery account. He informs Webb that he forwarded American Anti-Slavery Society reports and says that he thinks Parker Pillsbury's sensitivity must be very trying to the English abolitionists. May considers that George Thompson was obliged by circumstances to praise Frederick Douglass in his newspaper, "The Empire," but he denounces the activity of Julia Griffiths. He says that Pillsbury would not incur the displeasure of William Lloyd Garrison and his friends if he were to attack George Thompson. May reports that Pillsbury seems quite conscious of "a screw loose (as we say - is this English also?) in his composition" and that George Thompson was offended by Webb's report of the London conference. He compares Reverend George Armstrong and Dr. John Bishop Estlin.
