In this letter, Maria Weston Chapman refers contemptuously to the "attempted rehabilitation" of the damaged reputation of Mayor Lyman by his son Theodore Lyman. She also severely criticizes a similar attempt to represent Dr. William Ellery Channing as the head of the anti-slavery movement. Chapman briefly refers to the Boston Public Library.
