Elizabeth Bates Chapman [Laugel] writes to Debora Weston that "I have been so very good that I hardly know whether I have had a good time or not ..." She gives a detailed chronological account of her visit with her grandparents. She thanks Debora for a book. Elizabeth said: "We have a great dearth of books here and for my part I don't see how they live here. I am almost dead for want of a book."
