Source Description
A manuscript in six parts, all in the hand of John Winthrop. Contains: 1. The full text of Arbitrary government described (1644) -- 2. Miscellaneous excerpts from the writings of Thomas Aquinas (in Latin) -- 3. Commentary on Deuteronomy 22:28 -- 4. A summary of the Committee of Deputies' reply to Arbitrary government described (with Winthrop's commentary on the same) titled "The returnes of the com[m]ittee of the house of Dep:: concerning the book about arbitrary governmt, in the examn thereof, & the votes of the house passed upon each p[ar]ticular" -- 5. Winthrop's defense of Arbitrary government described, titled "The author's review of his writing" -- 6. A contemporary bifolium (26 x 17 cm, folded) containing notes in the hand of John Winthrop, collectively titled "About the booke abt Arbitrary governmnt."
