Tom Hughes plowing fields on Hayden Rowe, 1942

This is a black and white copy photo-image of Tom Hughes using a horse to plow a field for farming on Hayden Row. The horse is clearly a work-horse as opposed to a riding horse, and is attached to the plow by a system of leather straps while wearing blinders. The worked soil is barren and mulchy, covered in a few piles of straw. The barren trees and dead grass indicate that the photo was most likely taken during the mid to late autumn of 1942. Clad in overalls, Hughes is leaning against the plow at rest while smoking a cigarette in his mouth, taking a break to pose for the unknown photographer, who his eyes are pointed at. At least three unidentified buildings can be seen in the distance. The leftmost one appears to have sustained some damage to its exterior.
