two parallel inscription bands (1966.135 and 1982.299) with Kufic lettering in dark brown on a lighter brown ground run the warp direction of the cream colored textile with the lettering oriented at right angles to the warp: ". . . sallá Allah 'a[layhi wa-alihi] nabi(an in superscript) wa-bi-al-Qur'an kitab(an in superscript) wa-bi-al-Ka'bah [qiblat(an in superscript)] wa-bi-al-a' immah al-ithná 'ashar 'alayhim al-salam i[mam(an in superscript)]

. . . God bless hi[m and his family] as a prophet, with the Kora[n] as a book, with the Ka'bah [as a qiblah] and with the twelve imams (upon them be peace) as an i[mam].
