Source Description
This work is related to a finished watercolor showing a lion encountering a python (WAM 37.831). This sketch is annotated in French with the colors to be used for the snake’s skin – “white,” “purplish gray,” “chocolate,” and “yellow.” Barye uses tracing paper to more easily transfer elements of a composition he was happy with to the final working surface
