Drawing After the Pediment of the Parthenon
Barye has outlined one of the three horse heads from the eastern pediment of the Parthenon in Athens. The horses pulled the chariot of Melene, the Greek goddess of the night. While a student, Barye studied Greek sculpture either through plaster casts or through engravings.
