Source Description

Looking across Lake Albano one sees, at the left, Castel Gandolfo, the summer residence of the popes. Standing against the horizon is Bernini's dome for the Castel Gandolfo church. At the right, towers Monte Cavo and slightly beyond, perched on the spur of the mountain, is Rocca di Papa. In the foreground, a peasant is packing rushes on the back of a mule and a "contadina" prepares her laundry. The scene appears to be in the morning, and mists are still rising from the water.
