Rooster, Hens and Pines
This painting and its mate "Bamboo and Chicks," (Walters 35.211) are both seemingly simple works with a few scant strokes of ink. Beyond the chickens, the bare paper becomes a vast, open expanse reaching to the base of the hills and distant pines.
