A youth appears to be flirting with a bashful young woman at a garden gate.Educated as a lawyer at Brown and Harvard Universities, Hoppin practiced his profession in his native Providence, Rhode Island, before becoming an illustrator. He generally specialized in humorous subjects, although he also illustrated travel books.
