Source Description
The Grand Canal is shown in the evening, judging from the rose-tinted sky. Visible at the extreme left is the Gritti Palace and on the right, the Dario Palace. Though not mentioned in the William T. Blodgett estate sale (New York, April 27, 1876), this painting is listed in the early Walters catalogues as having belonged to the New York financier, who died November 4, 1875. Therefore this work may be one of Rico's earliest views of the city in which he worked more and more after 1874.
