The artists Hebert worked in the classical tradition, and painted Italian genre scenes, religious subjects, and portraits. The young peasant is carrying an empty copper pot on her head while descending the rocky terrain of the Italian countryside. She is a replica of the principal figure in "The Women of Cervaro", Salon of 1859.
