The plaque is the upper left corner of a frame-embellishment and is curved to fit an oval or arched central panel. The putto reproduces a detail of an ancient relief found in Ravenna representing the empty throne of Neptune, which Marco Dente engraved in 1519 (Bibliothèque Nationale, Estampes, Eb 6 Res 41).
