Document source description

Probably made for a European consumer, this platter's center contains a cartouche with coats of arms showing a double-headed eagle with three crowns. It is possible that these coats-of-arms were added after the object was imported to Venice. The arabesques and silver inlay are typical decorations used on metalwork intended for both export to Europe and local consumption in the western part of the Islamic world.
