Source Description

Craftsmen often decorated the back side of Hispano-Moresque plates. As in this example, the design on the back was generally monochromatic and less elaborate than that on the front. The stylized eagle echoes the heraldic eagle on the plate's front and may derive from the coat of arms of the family for which the piece was made.
