Source Description

The Latin inscription, which translates as "Unto us a child is born," is from the liturgy of the High Mass sung on Christmas day. The symmetrical composition and the harmonious arrangement of the flowing draperies are characteristic of High Renaissance classicism. The ring at the top of this plaque reveals that it was to be hung on the wall as a focus of private devotion.
