Document source description

This leather casket box, protected by strips of iron and closed with a large lock, was probably used to store documents, money, or other precious objects. It is decorated with courtship scenes and was originally painted and highlighted with gilding. The inscription of two Flemish family names -- AVRDT HVEVENEER @ DE PLOEIER (separated by a decorative) -- could indicate that it was owned by a couple.
