Document source description
Rosewater, a concentrated liquid made from rose blooms and used for many purposes, was kept in flasks like this one.The town of Kütahya where this flask was made was a center of ceramic production in the Ottoman Empire. There the ceramic industry was dependent on the Armenian Christian population, who not only were artists of ceramics but also served as merchants in its trade—they connected the Ottoman Empire to other regions through robust trade networks.
