Source Description
The Latin text on the bottom inscribed in gilt reads, "Christ, rising from the dead and returning to heaven, triumphs over Satan, lord of this world, through His love for mankind." Based on an engraving dated 1588 by Anton Wierix (ca. 1555-1604) after the Flemish painter Martin de Vos (1532-1603), this plaque, with its original frame, is a companion to Limosin's "Plaque with the Annunciation" (44.346). Together they mark the beginning and the end of Christ's earthly existence.
