Kozuka with a Dragon Holding a Jewel

1710-1744 (Edo) L: 3 3/4 in. (9.6 cm) Citation Source image

A dragon holding a jewel is a common motif on sword fittings. The jewel is used by the Dragon King to control the tides. Here, the dragon appears to weave between the background decoration and the body of the kozuka. The artist signed the kozuka on the reverse.
