Document source description
A yatate is a portable writing set that provides a case for ink and a shaft for a brush. This set also includes a letter opener in addition to a compass, a sundial, and a calendar—all of these parts are conveniently hidden under the rabbit’s head. People carried portable writing sets while traveling or on an outing, in case they were inspired to compose a letter, poem, or calligraphy.
