Source Description
The term “transmutation” is a translation of the Chinese word “yao bian'' meaning “changing of color in the kiln.” The streaked or variegated effect of the glaze as seen on this vase is spontaneous, resulting from the ways that different color glazes react to each other when fired in the kiln.
