Given to Jean duc de Berry in 1410 (signature 'Jehan' [duke de Berry, d. 1416] inscribed at end of text in W.126, fol. 277v); M. of Auzances (1566); JeanSerez, monseigneur of Villeroy (1571); Nicolas of Verdun; Jean Habert (1625); Henri Louis Habert; Godefroy Duke of Bouillon; Captain Philip of Auvergne (1785); Sir William Gore Ouseley (1770-1844); sold in London by Morier and Budd, July 8th, 1853 to Sotheran & Co., London bookseller; bought 1855 by Bertram, 4th Earl of Ashburnham (1797-1878), his bookplate; May 1897 bought by Henry Yates Thompson, his book plate inscribed with Ms. number 'LXXVI' (binding characteristic of kind chosen by H. Y. Thompson for manuscripts in his collection); penciled note by Mrs. H. Y. Thompson in W. 125, fol. 'a' (endleaf added after 1540): ""This Bible historiale of the Duke de Berry is accompanied by a small volume entitled 'Claims of Philip d' Auvergne Prince of Bouillon,' in which, on page 117, will be found mention of this MS.""; book referred to by Mrs. Thompson was offered along with the manuscript that is now W. 125-126 to the earl of Ashburnham December 31st, 1854, as is known from a letter to the earl from Sotheran & Co. preserved in the printed volume of 1806 that was acquired by Henry Walters along with W.125-126; Henry Yates Thompson sale, Sotheby's, March 23 1920, to Bernard Quaritch Ltd., London; Henry Walters, Baltimore, 1920-1931, by purchase from Quaritch.
