Bust-length portrait of a young man with brown hair, wearing a black coat, white vest, high white collar and white stock.Henry Colton Shumway studied in New York City at the National Academy of Design. By 1831 he had established himself as a miniature painter and exhibited frequently at the Academy. He was elected an Associate in 1831 and an Academician in 1832. He ended his career coloring photographic portraits.
