Kozuka with Flower Cart with a Praying Mantis

1695-1742 (Edo) L: 3 3/4 in. (9.6 cm) Citation Source image

The cart filled with flowers is a lucky flower cart, called a "hana kuruma." When shown with praying mantis, as here, the motif is meant to suggest the wheel of law. The wheel of law is a physical manifestation of Buddha's teachings.
