Théophile Gautier (1811-1872)
Théophile Gautier (1811-1872) was a French poet and novelist. He was a leader of the Parnassians and an advocate of art for art's sake. He is remembered for his prose fiction, but his work as a journalist and a theater and art critic was to occupy him for most of his career.
