Horse Head Finial

5th century H: 3 1/4 in. (8.3 cm) Citation Source image

The horse's head is hollowed out for only a short length, indicating the use as a finial on a piece of furniture or a shaft. Its highly polished surface shows a pattern of root marks from burial.
