Source Description

In its slender, delicate shape and asymmetrical, rhythmical patterns of decoration, this vase typifies Art Nouveau. Javanese shadow puppets and batiks, from the Dutch colonial territories, may have inspired the distinctive gossamer and stippled patterns on this vase. Juriaan Juriaan Kok produced the "eggshell porcelain" (thin earthenware made with pipe clay) vase at the Rozenburg Art Pottery in The Hague. Sam Schellink, Jr., was responsible for the Art Nouveau decoration.
