Source Description

Lazare-Nicholas-Marguerite Carnot (1753-1823), French statement and scientist, served as a deputy to the Legislative Assembly in 1791, as a member of the Convention in 1792, and as a minister of war from 1793 to 1795. He was a member of the Directory in 1795, and of the Tribunate from 1802-1807, governor of Antwerp in 1814, and minister of the interior under Napoleon. He authored "Sur la métaphysique du calcul infinitésimal" in 1797 and "De la défense des places fortes" 1801. He died in Magdebourg in 1823.
