After a job has been arranged for him as a clerk, the once wealthy but now disinherited Seishichi (left) falls in love with the shopkeeper's daughter (center), with whom he manages to elope. The attempts of another clerk (right) to entrap him are unsuccessful. This scene is set on the theater runway in front of the closed stage curtain.
