Having been officially notified of the Soga brothers' vendetta against him for murdering their father eighteen years before, the apprehensive Kudo Suketsune arrives at the foot of Mt. Fugi for the shogun's hunt. He is flanked by the great general Kajiwara Kagetoki (at right) and his retainer Asahina (at left).
