January 26, 1955
Dear Mr. Bunker:
Thank you very much for your letter of
January 13, telling me something of your plans
for the annual campaign of the American Red
Cross.
The Red Cross stands as a symbol of
mercy in a savage age. It comes to the rescue
of millions, not only on the battlefield
but also in military installations designed
to prevent battle; not only in time of great
disaster but every day in the care of the sick,
the aged, and the disabled; not only where
Americans need help but also where our friends
abroad need help.
The Red Cross depends completely upon
voluntary workers and freely given funds.
Americans are generous people. I urge them
to give their time and money as generously as
they are able to the Red Cross.
With every good wish, I am
Sincerely yours,
bdears. Intruen
