M Subject Assignment to Foreign Service. at Attention of + My dear Miss Bethune:- I have been requested by Miss Noyes to inform you that your application for foreign service has been approved by the War Department. May I request that you secure a copy of your birth certificate, or, if this is impossible, an affidavit from some member of your family older than yourself. Will you please have, also, three dozen photographs taken, the head size to be 1" x 1 1/4" with no hat on. I am enclosing three copies of the affidavit which must be made by you and taken with you when you make application for the passport. You will then proceed to apply for the passport for service in England and France. This letter constitutex fully all endorsement for your application for the passport. You should, at once, make such appli- cation to the clerk of the United States District Court, Pittsburgh, Penna., or to the Court in whose jurisdiction your witness resides. By order of the State Department you are to instruct the clerk of the Court to send your passport application to the Department of Personnel, American Red Cross, Washington, D.
