Although Mrs. Strobel does not have\na college degree and does not have special training in teaching, I do believe\nshe has the personal qualities necessary to enable one to succeed in this\nparticular assignment. If she were interested, I think we would be glad to\nconsider her.\nAnother nurse whose folder I have reviewed but who has not previously\nindicated interest in overseas service is Miss Josephine Dora Beuchat, badge\nnumber 55,720, 2530 West Eighth Street, Los Angeles 5, California. Her\nrecord of preparation and experience would seem to indicate that she is\nqualified for this position. She served as a nursing consultant in North\nAtlantic Area in 1943 and 1944. I do not inow whether you would have her\nprofessional file or if it is still in the North Atlantic Area Office. I\ncan't seem to remember her on the staff up there and have no idea what\nsort of record she made. However, I believe she is worth investigating.\nI would appreciate it if you would elicit whether or not she would be\ninterested in this assignment, and also find out whether or not she would\nprove a suitable candidate for such an appointment. She does have an\nankylosed knee, the reason. for which I do not know. Whether or not that\nwould prove oblisqualify\"14 a question but it would seen that if she were\nable to do nursing consultant work in the area she certainly would be able\nto do this sort of work in the Hawaiian Islands.\nHawaii is very anxious to have this person at an early date so\nanything you can do to help us expedite an appointment will be appreciated.\nOne qualification I failed to mention in the first part of the\nmemorandum is that the nurse must enjoy working with any type of bacial\ngroup as the population in Hawaii is very mixed. Certainly there must be\nno strong anti-Japanese fesling.\nI have been in correspondence with Miss Julianne Rickey who is\nnow at Quinta Milote, c/o Becerra, Avenida Club Paraiso, El Paraise,\nCaracas, Venesuela.
