her from accepting an overseas assignment in August but it is possible that
by now that would not be disqualifying. Although Mrs. Strobel does not have
a college degree and does not have special training in teaching, I do believe
she has the personal qualities necessary to enable one to succeed in this
particular assignment. If she were interested, I think we would be glad to
consider her.
Another nurse whose folder I have reviewed but who has not previously
indicated interest in overseas service is Miss Josephine Dora Beuchat, badge
number 55,720, 2530 West Eighth Street, Los Angeles 5, California. Her
record of preparation and experience would seem to indicate that she is
qualified for this position. She served as a nursing consultant in North
Atlantic Area in 1943 and 1944. I do not inow whether you would have her
professional file or if it is still in the North Atlantic Area Office. I
can't seem to remember her on the staff up there and have no idea what
sort of record she made. However, I believe she is worth investigating.
I would appreciate it if you would elicit whether or not she would be
interested in this assignment, and also find out whether or not she would
prove a suitable candidate for such an appointment. She does have an
ankylosed knee, the reason. for which I do not know. Whether or not that
would prove oblisqualify"14 a question but it would seen that if she were
able to do nursing consultant work in the area she certainly would be able
to do this sort of work in the Hawaiian Islands.
Hawaii is very anxious to have this person at an early date so
anything you can do to help us expedite an appointment will be appreciated.
One qualification I failed to mention in the first part of the
memorandum is that the nurse must enjoy working with any type of bacial
group as the population in Hawaii is very mixed. Certainly there must be
no strong anti-Japanese fesling.
I have been in correspondence with Miss Julianne Rickey who is
now at Quinta Milote, c/o Becerra, Avenida Club Paraiso, El Paraise,
Caracas, Venesuela. She was formerly a nursing field representative on our
Eastern Area staff and has just completed her assignment in Venezuela
so that she is available for other employment. white The will prove interested
I do not know but will keep you informed as soon as I hear from her again.
