Mesdames:
I represent Helen Dore Boylston of Georgetown Road,
Weston, Connecticut who was employed by the Red Cross during
World War I as a nurse with the British Army. She was
a
graduate of Massachusetts General Hospital nursing school
and went with a contingent of newly graduated nurses from
that hospital to serve with the Red Cross in England.
Thereafter she also served in Albania, I believe also under
your auspices.
Miss Boylston was born in 1895 and is now in her
78th year. I have been appointed conservatrix of her affairs
because she has become incapable of managing them herself.
She also recently suffered a crushed vertebra and
is now confined to a nursing home for what her doctor believes
is a terminal illness.
Because she was employed as a nurse by your
organization, are there any benefits to which she presently
would have access, either money or care in a designated
hospital?
You may remember that she is the author of a number
of books beginning with Sue Barton, Student Nurse, which
have been very popular both in this country and abroad for
nearly 40 years. She is not indigent but her income is
insufficient to pay for nursing home care which she will
need for an indefinite period, and I am investigating possible
sources of aid to her.
W
Very yours,
truly
