Extract from cable to Secretary of State FOR ANCROSS from Winant, London,
in
Ingland, August 5, 1942:
"706. Army assumed full responsibility for Hospital August third, following
D

nurses accepted commissions and were sworn in as of July sixteenth. Bacon,

Carpenter, Doane, Evans, Gay, Heath, Heberden, Kurts, Mancini, Schaller,
S
Shelley, Smith, Sterback, Sulliven, Sundby, Timmer, Wilbur and Williams.
Following accepting commissions and will be sworn in as of August first:
Britton, Colvin, Gree, Devies, Dickie, Goik, Hugo, Malloy, Smock, Ralph
and whyte. Voss remaining civilian status. At request of Commanding
Officer all other nurses brought to London and are now awaiting transportation
to States or further assigument. Approxiastely twelve, including Olson,
desire remain England holding themselvos available for Army laters Army
authobities approve. In view desporate need American personnel for club
activities request cable approval to transfer up to twelve to this office
as needed."
