(A 0 March 26, 1919. Miss Dora carfathers, Cutler, Ohio. C My dear Miss Carruthers: Your name has been suggested as a possible speaker for our Chautauqua program, and I am writing in the hope that we may interest you in this work. The enclosed memorandum will give you detailed information regarding this type of service. We feel that the choutauqua itineraries, reaching over 6,000 communities with their strong rural affilia- tions is one of the most constructive ways in which we can further Public Health education, particularly in districts in need of such instruction. We are planning to assign at least thirty nurses recently returned from overseas to this work, and to place the Chautauqua program on a basis of a publicity campaign. You will see from the enclosed memorandum that all possible cooperation through the Red Cross Department of Nursing and Red Cross Chapters, as well as through publicity to be distributed from National Head- quarters will be given to help our nurses in delivering their message. The assignment begins June 1st and lasts, usually, until September. Would you consider, however, accepting assignment as esrly as April 15th or May lst, upon a Chnutauqueu circuit covering the Southwest and the far western part of the country? This circuit last until December lst. As the need for speakers is imperative, may I ask that you wire us your decision, collect. Very truly yours, P/REG Acting Director, Department of Nursing.
