Yesterday Miss Marie Catania of 1155 Pine St., San Francisco, a World
War I Red Cross nurse, called to ask whether Red Cross had ever done anything
about health insurance for the Red Cross nurses who were assigned to Europe
during World War I. I told her that several of those nurses had transferred
to the military and thus were made eligible for military benefits. She stated
that she was not one who had transferred and was just calling to find out
f.
whether anything had been, or was going to be, done for those in her catagory.
I
suggested that she write directly to you at national headquarters but she
thought that one person writing would carry no weight, but did ask if I would
find out from you whether there were any plans. I gave her no encouragement
except that I would inquire of you. I shall appreciate it if you will write
directly to Miss Catania, with a copy of the letter to us, and give her what-
ever information is available with regard to final decisions on these nurses
who worked overseas during World War I.
This seems a long time following their service but apparently she has
ne ver had any knowledge of any decisions that were ever made pertaining to them.
