T \ e -2- Entering Bellevue in 1885, she loved singing, diagnosed a case of typhoid fever M on her first night duty, and was recommended by the school for private nursing in the home of Hamilton Fish, John Jacob Astor, and in Philadelphia, of Professor Jacob Men- a des da Costa. When the latter case was finished she continued as private secretary to da Costa and because of this connection was much in demand for editing medical and nur- a sing books. She still treasures her little first aid text, and would love to join the 75 Phila- delphia women who are preparing to teach the first aid classes of this emergency. Hahnemann Hospital has donated the use of their 18th floor for the fifteen three-hour D lessons, which make up the course. When this first group finished they will teach the civilian first aid classes to be organized by the Philamelphia chapter of the Red Cross.
