INTER - OFFICE LETTER
American National
Red Cross
Midwestern Area -
St. Louis
M
TO
Miss Virginia Dunbar
Date
December 8, 1943
FROM Myrtis Coltharp
ary
You will recall that when I was at National Headquarters recently,
e
I discussed with you the matter of promotion for members on the
+
Red Cross staff as I feel a definite responsibility for the
professional growth of nurses who come on the Midwestern Area staff.
At present I have three consultants - Petronilla Commins, Lillian
Upham and Florence Beseman who are ready for positions as Assistants
to the Director and we have no openings at present in this Area. I
do not know how I would ever replace these staff members if they
were transferred to another area; however, I do feel they should be
given consideration when openings occur.
P
I
believe Olive Lee, Edith Olson and Nancy Cummings are excellent
material for foreign assignments. They have served as Nursing
Consultants and after being brought into the Area Office as Assistant
to Director have shown ability in orgenization.
If at some future time Helen Pittman would like an assignment other
than Special Consultant in charge of the Camp Community Emergency
Nursing Services, she should be given consideration for an assignment
as Assistant to the Director or for foreign service.
Please understand that I in no way wish to release any of these nurses
as they are excellent people and are very valuable to us.
(Signed)
Myrtis Coltharp
