My dear Jiss Beck:
Your letter of October 24th was received sometime ago, but

sconer.
At the present time we have no pdsition to offer you as in-

structor in Home Hygiene and Care of the Sick. Instructors of classes
for our chapters do not, as a rule, receive such high salaries as you
probably could command, and the directorships of the Teaching Cent ers in
are at present all filled. I had hoped that the High Schools here
Washington might put in the course this year but so far this has not
been done. Should they need a teacher here in the schools she would
need to be a college graduate to moet the school requirements.

salary paid in the Washington schools, however, is not as large as the
New York Wity schools are somewhat higher and are on an advancing scale.

Those who tesch in New York City are required to take an examination on
this subject. At this time there are no vacancies in those schools that
know of. It might, however, be well for you to write Miss Frederika
we Farley, director of the Teaching Center, American National Red Cross, 24
Fifth Avenue, New York City, who could give you further information regard-
ing the work in the Greater New York schools, also tell you when the exam-
inations are held.
I am referring your letter to Mrs. Isabelle W. Baker, National
Director of Home Hygiene, as it is just possible there may be a position
open in one of the other Red Cross Divisions.
Enclosed herewith you will find two copies of form 1082, appli-
cation for instructors which if you will fill out and teturn to me, will be be
put on file in case a position becomes available. The duplicate will
sent to lirs. Baker for her files.
Very sincerely yours,
(Mrs.) Annie S. Humphrey, Director,
Home Hygiene and Care of the Sick.
