Va.\nB\nVia\nMy dear Jiss Beck:\nYour letter of October 24th was received sometime ago, but\nec\na\nowing to two absences from the city. I have not been able to answer\nsconer.\nAt the present time we have no pdsition to offer you as in-\nH\nstructor in Home Hygiene and Care of the Sick. Instructors of classes\nfor our chapters do not, as a rule, receive such high salaries as you\nprobably could command, and the directorships of the Teaching Cent ers in\nare at present all filled. I had hoped that the High Schools here\nWashington might put in the course this year but so far this has not\nbeen done. Should they need a teacher here in the schools she would\nneed to be a college graduate to moet the school requirements.\nThe\nsalary paid in the Washington schools, however, is not as large as the\nNew York Wity schools are somewhat higher and are on an advancing scale.\none you are àlready receiving. The salaries paid instructors in the\nThose who tesch in New York City are required to take an examination on\nthis subject. At this time there are no vacancies in those schools that\nknow of. It might, however, be well for you to write Miss Frederika\nwe Farley, director of the Teaching Center, American National Red Cross, 24\nFifth Avenue, New York City, who could give you further information regard-\ning the work in the Greater New York schools, also tell you when the exam-\ninations are held.\nI am referring your letter to Mrs. Isabelle W. Baker, National\nDirector of Home Hygiene, as it is just possible there may be a position\nopen in one of the other Red Cross Divisions.\nEnclosed herewith you will find two copies of form 1082, appli-\ncation for instructors which if you will fill out and teturn to me, will be be\nput on file in case a position becomes available.
