My dear Miss Noyes:
It was a real pleasure to have a little
visit with you this morning over the telephone and
I am sending this little note to make sure that I
understood the various points.
First of all, it seems desirable to find
some nurses in France who could come to this country
for a speaking tour to interest the public health in
our health programme. I shall bear this in mind

and take it up with Miss Stimson as soon as I arrive.
She has already mentioned Miss Alice Fitzgerald for
similar work and it is possible that she may be will-
ing to come home for this purpose.
I am greatly puzzled over the fact that
other organizations seem to be sending their per-
sonnel to France and was a little embarrassed at
having the British consul calmly transfer my al-
legiance to the Young Men's Christian Association.
You will be amused to hear that my passport was
sent to the State Department representative here
in New York without my knowledge or consent, and
by them transferred to the Y .M.C.A. You can
imagine that I lost no time in having the matter
straightened out, but apparently the impression
has gone forth that no further Red Cross personnel
will go to France. It seems strange when no one
else seems to be included in this restriction.
I have kept a f ew of Miss Stimson's
letters but will try and mail them on my arrival
at Brest, after I have copied a f ew notes in the
