Miss Clara D. Noyes,
American Red Cross,
Washington, D.C.
Dear Miss Noyes:-
Your telegram announcing Miss Delano's death,
has been handed to me by Miss Swainhardt on my return to the
New York office. I am also informed that Miss Beard has
sent you a message in the name of this Organization, hence
my reply comes only as a member of the National Committee on
Nursing of the American Red Cross.
May I say that I cannot conceive of her passing
0
from this life more in accordance with her own desire than to
have been permitted to serve to the end of the war and to have
died in active service. Surely no one has labored more devoted-
ly in a great cause and tens of thousands; (American nurses will
revere her memory as they have honored her life.
Very truly yours,
Ella Phillips Candall
