Copy of letter written by Miss Anna W. Kerr,
Minnequa Hill, Canton,
au
Penn. U.S.A.,
April 13th/20.
My dear Miss Hay,
Miss Noyes tells me that you are now in charge of
the Red Cross work in Paris and I am glad to think that you are
relieved of the responsibility of that
work in the East.
The office in Paris was such a comfort to me while
I was in France when Miss FitzGerald was there, and I am sure
the nurses must be glad to find a sympathetic and familiar face
greet them when they come in with their troubles.
You must know how near my heart the removal of
Miss Delano's body to this country is and how hard I tried to
affect it while I was in France. It was a great disappointment
to me that the Red Cross was not permitted to make the arrangements
for the transport so the next best thing to do was to ask that
they be permitted to be present at the isinternment and shipment
atsavanay. I saw General Ireland while I was in Washington re-
cently and Mis Noyes says she sent you a copy of his letter. I
answered it, asking that the report of the official in charge at
Savanay be sent to the Red Cross Office in Paris, but have had no
answer as yet. However, I know you and the Paris R. C. Officers
will have no difficulty about that part of it, and it is the
greatest relief to me, dear Miss Hay, to feel the you are there
for I feel sure that every respect and consideration will be
paid Miss Delano. I would willingly go over myself if it were
necessary.
Miss Delano was buried in a Metal-lined casket which
was sealed and placed in an outer box. This was laid in the grave
lined with concrete for better preservation. Nantes is only
about 15 miles away and there are two good hotels the re and Savanay
is easily reached from there by automobile.
The casket was furnished by the undertaker in Nantes,
of which Mr. Vavaseur, directeur des pompes Funebre, is the head.
It is on the main square at Nantes, you can't miss it.
I tell you these things as something might come up at
anytime. The expense was paid by her executors, American Security
and Trust Company, of Washington.
I am up here now in this little "place which is so full
of memories of Jane. It is just a year agao, since she left us, and
I find none like her. I hope when you come back to this country
